ABOUT THE RED LION
Nestled in the heart of Llanidloes, the Red Lion Hotel is a historic, charming Welsh pub and hotel offering warm hospitality, comfortable accommodation, and traditional local food.

The Red Lion has been at the centre of Llanidloes life for over 275 years. Dating in its present form from the early to mid eighteenth century, the interior retains evidence of ancient timber framing with a heavily beamed entrance hall. The lion standing proudly on the porch over the front door is one of the best loved landmarks of the town.
Not only has the Red Lion been a place of hospitality and warmth over the years, but it has also served as a location for countless official functions such as inquests, legal hearings and auctions. Landowners would hold banquets here for their tenants during annual rent collections and to mark family celebrations.

At one time the Red Lion had coach houses behind and stabling for forty horses. The current Games Bar area was a separate shop for many years. In the 1930s it was Rees’ Sweet Shop.
The Red Lion was one of the main pubs frequented by the Chartists. They discussed their plans and grievances here leading up to the famous events of April 1839 when the townspeople rose up calling for fair wages and votes for all men.
These days the heart of Red Lion is the close-knit team that brings the old place to life every day. From the second you walk through the door, you’re met with a genuine Welsh welcome—whether you're popping in for a quick chat, a cozy pint of local ale, or a hearty plate of food after a long walk. Our bar crew, chefs, and front-of-house staff take real pride in keeping this wonderful historic space feeling like a second home for locals and visitors alike. We love what we do, and we're always here to make sure you get good drink, great food, and a warm spot by the fire.
